LPA only add conditions after the developer has agreed to them. If developer doesn't agree they won't be added. Or if that goes wrong, developer just puts in a Planning Application to remove the condition and LPA wave it through.

This always happens.
Usually concerning the requirements for affordable housing. Suddenly the numbers no longer add up so the affordability requirement is dropped once the project is 50% completed.

Happened on a small development near me where developer was going to make a profit on the development (incl. affordable housing) just not as much as they wanted to make so Planning Application to sell the alloted Affordable homes at full market pricing. I attended and spoke at the Council hearing on the case and objections were ignored 'cos nobody wanted to frighten the developers.

To me if you are a developer you take a business risk. You look at margins, risk, etc. and make your decision. What has happened is they've used LPA to turn their business risk into a guaranteed "sure thing". And often not even talking about any loss, just not meeting their profit expectations.

Perhaps Libby Purves ought to consider that that's exactly why speed awareness courses are a Good Thing: helping the too many people who aren't boy racers but still speed, mostly through carelessness. (That was me too.)

Hmmm.

Comparing an old sedan to a current SUV is always going to look like that.

An original X5 (I think that was their first SUV) next to a current one would be fairer.

I'm not looking to be fair. That the thing on the right is considered to be a family car is an indictment of the fraud that's been pulled on motorists' perception of what a car is. The thing on the right is a minibus, in effect.

I'm not disputing that at all, I was just suggesting that a like for like comparison is usually more helpful than that kinda pish.

Both are useful, I'd suggest, but selling a minibus that only holds five people is the point I was trying to make.

Oh, and I agree about the disappearance of the BMW design concept too. Even if I don't really like cars (especially modern ones), I'll make exceptions for elegance.

Here's a smaller BMW, in the Turin museum of cars.

An X7 can take 7 people.

We're coming at this from the same viewpoint really. Especially when it comes to aesthetics.

The Renault doesn't hold the same amount of prestige.
And yes, that is what it is about.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want a bit of comfort and refinement when driving though (although I agree that Beemer looks hideous).

I’ve actually driven a modern Renault Traffic when I brought my daughter back from Uni and in many ways it was nicer to drive than my ageing Qashqai but I don’t think I’d want it as my daily vehicle.

Yeah, it would only be to puncture the "Oh, but it's so practical when Ptolemy, Cassandra, Clytemnestra and Eric all have games on the same day!" reasoning for having a X7.
