Is this the goodlaw project that is on the side of TiMs in women's safe, private spaces and sports?

It’s really disappointing to be in a country where Farage can make his big “policy” announcement today without a major backlash. It’s such an obvious ploy, turn people you don’t like into the bogeyman then announce what should be considered reprehensible ideas of how to save country from said bogeyman but there are far too many people desperate to believe in the bogeyman as it stops them being responsible for their own failings. Yet again the mainstream media are giving him all the attention he wants.

Well I suppose having 'done' the EU bit, he needs someone else to blame. Brown people are an easy target.

Because people want to believe there's an easy answer with no cost to them personally. It's optimistic ignorance.
Also, they can't be bothered to think about the issues. Far easier to be told what the problems are and the blindly accept the solutions from people with a track record for failure.

Farangé might be in a stew about refugees but he's the one that significantly created the problem. Were the UK still an EU member we'd still be in Dublin III agreement which means that refugees arriving in small boats could under Dublin III be returned to the first safe EU country they passed through. Who would pay a fortune and risk their lives when they'd be sent straight back to the 1st EU country they entered ie they don't get to claim asylum in the UK but go back to 1st EU country and have to claim asylum there (so no appeals process in UK, no hotel stays in UK, just a flight or ferry).

We can thank Farangë that we have the issue and given he is much of the cause why would anybody with a few working brain cells accept his "solution"

nb Personally I don't think it is the issue many of our politicians seem to be presenting it as. Of course it's expensive and going badly but that is the fault of politicians not asylum seekers. We should not be blaming asylum seekers for the failings of our politicians.

Are you in the UK without immigration status (a visa)? Getting regular status can be difficult, and there is lots of advice out there. Some of this advice is not up-to-date, and people may ask for lots of money for legal advice, even if they are not qualified to give it.

This page contains information about some of the ways that people without status can apply for a visa. This page was written in September 2022 and will be updated regularly.

This page has information on the different routes people can use to apply for status, and what kind of status people get if they are successful.

If you are in the UK without immigration status, you can call our helpline and get advice from an immigration lawyer for free. The helpline is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 and 13:00. You can call 020 7553 7470 to speak to somebody.

I really don't understand why Labour don't constantly hit back with this. I know he'll try to deflect and suggest he would have some how forced the EU to keep that arrangement in place under his version of Brexit but the message needs to be pushed that Brexit has made immigration worse and given us less control of our borders. None of the other Parties seem interested in ripping his nonsense to pieces.

Scared of losing votes from those voting for Brexit? Being labelled a "remainer" which people like Faragê would then use to blame for him for messing up Brexit and making out all Brexit related problems were down to his negotiation failures?

Or just Labour are not paying enough attention or feel plenty of time before next election or that Reform have few MPs so no threat. But they should be changing the story eg start calling them refuges not "illegal migrants" to start toning down the rhetoric.

As long as they've got Reformy McSweeney and Glasman calling the shots, I can't see them changing tack. Starmer will end up sounding Faragey, but without the charisma or ability to lie & obfuscate.

I'm unclear as to how this could realistically be argued as Brexit is/was purely a tory affair.
But then facts and truth seem to be so last century.

The Tories did that as well: they broke the system (it doesn't matter whether it was by design and/or incompetence), and then blamed the very people who had been impacted by the change.

It's a regular populist tactic, so we shouldn't be surprised. All populist movements need an 'other' to blame, whether that's some fictional 'elite' or some downtrodden or 'out' section of society (that can even be cyclists) that the populists will persuade enough people to blame for complex (and probably intractable) problems.

Populists need problems, and if there aren't enough, they'll persuade the masses that the world is going to hell in a handcart anyway (see Brexit), as it's the only way they can win.
