He came close to suggesting Farage’s ‘gamble’ could be a political master stroke on the 6 o’clock news.
It's an interesting point. I guess that it could be argued that a by-election against a joke candidate, brought about by an MP trying to evade scrutiny for his dodgy finances, is a subversion of parliamentary process, so his resignation is not accepted. But if they accept it, it's going to be hilarious. If Farage 'wins', it will be internationally seen as a joke, and the investigation can resume. If he loses... well...

Mason is right for the reasons mentioned above. We are being complacent about Farage.
You'll have to talk me through how this could be a masterstroke. I can't see any way he 'wins' out of this, unless Parliament (and the press) just gave up investigating him if he were to win the by-election. In the meantime, all the focus is going to be on his financial shenanigans.
He can claim that but it doesn't make it true. Like most of his claims. It burnishes his man of the people who says it like it is fighting the blob image. If he runs as the only candidate he further gets to point out how scared the establishment are of him.
It doesn't need to be true, just plausible to his base. He may look silly to us, but we are not the audience of this play. Have we learned nothing from the US?He can claim that but it doesn't make it true. Like most of his claims.
The other parties are just keeping their powder dry as there is no point in firing prematurely. Right now he just looks silly.

His base is not enough to win come the election.
As long as the majority see through his corruption we will be fine.
