There is a moderate centrist hole opening up, a smart savvy party just step into it. Problem is the political environment is toxic. Who would want the job.
One of the historical political problems in this country over the past 100 years has been the almost ingrained belief that only Labour or the Tories can gain power. The recent apparent downturn in perception of these parties, and the mystique about their right to govern vanishing has led to an opportunity (which is rapidly being grasped by the odious Farage) to change that. Obviously the LibDems and Greens could benefit but they both suffer from a lack of recognisable leadership skills.
In the past I remember the Social Democrats offered possibilities but suffered because of the national fixation with the name "Labour", even though they had some very sound, big name politicians in their breakaway party. Perhaps there is a new opportunity for a reset of UK politics away from the old two party duopoly.
Let Corbyn have his left wing party, Farage and the sinking ship rat Tories have the right, and let a new party that is a true social democratic movement have its chance, as well as the LibDems, Greens and Nats.
I live in hope but not too much optimism because of the way the UK population has been sleepwalking to the present situation for too long.
