Typical Reform voter. Clueless.
The NHS isn’t free because I pay taxes?

I think the presenter didn't point out some very obvious misunderstandings from the caller eg the caller's National Insurance contributions mainly for pensions. 80% of NHS is funded from general taxation less than 20% from NI.

Whilst I agree how the example does "raise questions" trouble with a one off instance it it is selected because of aspects that make it amazing and is not necessarily representative.

The caller had such a lack of basic understanding of things like money that this would be a nuance too far. The guy couldn't even follow the thread of his own argument.

And yet people have argued that Reform supporters are not stupid.

I didn't say they were. However getting rid of our home grown idle isn't really an option. Bottom line is we need to be able to choose and control who comes in based on skills needs, ability to contribute to the economy and be a net taxpayer etc. And not on the basis of simply being able to arrive in the country.

We already do with a fairly strigent immigration/visa system, which you well know Stevo. As you highlight "And not on the basis of simply being able to arrive in the country.", I assume you are referring to asylum seekers? Unless we are going to ignore the 1951 UN Convention then we can't do much about it other than process them as quickly as possible.

At least Badenoch has spoken up on this one. It's such an open goal, (unless you want to be a party who has to pander to anti-vaxers.

Quite surprised at this as usually with an open goal and the keeper unconscious on the floor she still somehow manages to smash it over the bar!

She has such a low bar.

Shows how thick Farage is, Paracetamol has been widely used since the 1960s so we have over 60 years of evidence. Thalidomide was a new drug and it was withdrawn within 3 years of coming into use after the problems had become obvious. I don't see how anyone applying thinking can say that something that has been used regularly for 60 years is leading to an increase in autism in recent years.

He's not thick, but he knows his audience - it's only got to sound vaguely plausible to a certain percentage of the electorate.

Side note: a lot of young people have no idea what thalidomide was or why calling someone 'flid' is so wrong (on every level).

The thing is, there is nothing to gain by aligning with this claptrap other than for him personally, to curry favour. This is how irrelevant Britain is to him. He is just another narcissist.

Hmm, not so sure... he might think it's working well for Trump in the US, so it might work for Farage in the UK.

It is working in the US because there was already a groundswell of antivac anti science to latch on to, coming yes from ethnic minorites who were historically left down by medicine, but also from religious fundamentalism. This is the country where Darwinism is still somehow controversial, right?

As momentum builds more people latch on because people like to be part of a tribe.

Here I'm not sure there is enough religious fundamentalism for that to really build from. So who is his audience on this?

Possibly dummies here who are maga fans and want to latch onto that tribe, even though they are too stupid to realise that by definition it works against them because they are British.

This. When will foreign (Non-US) people realise that MAGA, and Trump in particular, are only interested in the US. The rest of the world is to be used up and discarded once their purpose has been served. "America first!" sound familiar?
