Looks like Matt Goodwin's new book is actually a self-published one he's paid for, and that he used Chat GPT to help write it. Yep, that famous 'academic', Matt Goodwin.

Perhaps this should have gone in AI Fails.

There were a lot of personal insults being thrown around in all directions in that debate and it often did get out of hand.

In terms of the foul language and verbal abuse it was pretty much one way, and fairly relentless at one point. I don't recall anybody on here having the courage to even mildly ask the poster to take it down a notch so I'm also bemused about the sudden offence taken at a particular word.

You wouldn't have listened anyway.

Jenrick suddenly discovers he's been a devout Christian for centuries, so he can rail against other religions, but somehow hasn't learnt all the terminology yet. Not only have they cancelled Easter, but they've cancelled Psalm Sunday too.
To be fair, every Sunday is Psalm Sunday...

I avoided the entire thread. Therefore I couldn’t possibly comment on posts within it.

Britain literally isn't a Christian country.
Did you fall asleep in history lessons?

The King is the literal head of the Church of England, a branch of Christianity. Christian holidays are widely celebrated and days off to celebrate are enshrined in law. Britain is literally a Christian Country as it is enshrined in our monarchy and laws.

I presume that what you intended to mean was the people of Britain are no longer majority Christian - which is true, as we have a broadly secular society.

It's ironic that the UK is nominally Christian, but most people are just 'meh', and everyone seems slightly embarrassed by things like bishops being in the HoL, whereas America is specifically not religious in its constitution, but the Trumpists are trying to make it a specifically Christian country.

The weird thing about Christianity in Britain is that a lot of people like to think they are, but don't go to church and don't actually know anything about the teachings of the bible.

My brother in law is a prime example. He's Christian, yet covets his neighbours wife and hasn't been to church since his youngest was christened. I don't have anything against this, or him (we get on well), but why claim to be something you're not actually into?

My folks, on the other hand fully embrace what I believe to be the actual teachings of Christianity: acceptance, community, forgiveness and understanding.

Firebrand religion from whichever one you may care to pick is dangerous stuff, and results in extremism.
