This is why I'm on the "He's fuçked up" side. This isn't Trump or Brexit, it's Farage being too cocky and not considering all the possibilities. Whether he wins or loses the by election, he loses.

It is not necessarily him that other parties are scared of but the realisation that there are a large number of voters who can be persuaded by a politician who has no shame in appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Yeah. Not a fan of Nigel, but, he does have that skill.

I will be interested to see what Clacton voters make of all of this. If you are someone who has voted Reform but is not necessarily a paid up member of the cult of Nige, surely you are going to think to yourself, why has he resigned only to run again? Even if you are oblivious to the wider context of his current troubles or disinterested, you must think this is all just plain weird.

I think they might just stay home if it's Farage v. a bin, unless Farage can persuade them that the bin is Laden.

I was quite disappointed that Count Binface now seems to have a professionally made outfit and custom bin head. I am sure it used to be just an old bin with a cape and tights. He has gone too corporate for my liking, must now be classed as the establishment.

Brexit, Trump

Not really relevant in this context. We don’t have a Presidential election so to gain power Farage needs to get hundreds of other candidates elected and finding remotely reliable candidates has been challenging. I don’t see where all these extra votes are coming from. Even if he did become PM the checks and balances seem far more robust in the UK e.g. independent judiciary. Support for Brexit is already on the wain.

The biggest threat he poses IMHO is that he gets supposedly serious politicians to dance to his tune all the time

Questions need to be asked about who has funded the makeover.

He was undoubtedly effective in the whole Brexit thing, both from the messaging point of view, and for corralling lots of shady backers to support the cause in $ (or roubles) or in kind. This is a good old-fashioned by-election in a single constituency where it's hard to bring any of that into play, as we saw in the abortive Makerfield by-election: all that stuff went by the wayside and enough people decided they didn't want Reform.

FWIW, I think the British sense of humour and delight in taking the piss might come into full play here, if Farage doesn't chicken out (which I think is more likely).
