Question: Now that Piddington has outed itself as a little England racist shithole, do you think this will impact house sales there? Yes of course there are racists that would flock to it, but most people aren't racist and just want a bit of peace and quiet.
This is going to bite them on the arse big time imo. There's nothing these type of people care about more than house prices (other than brown people, natch).

To play Devil’s Advocate, I suspect a large asylum processing facility nearby will have a bigger impact on house prices (which may well be the biggest reason behind their objections). However, that makes highlighting that there’s a large asylum processing facility proposed nearby a bit of a silly thing to do.

I don't think it is uncommon for Parish Council seats to be filled without contest. Many of these councils have unfilled seats. I am not sure there's a lot of profit to be made as chairman of a Parish Council.

Anyone entering Parish Council seat on the premise of making profit...
1. Is going to be disappointed*.
2. Should be rejected immediately.

*Probably. I know of one councillor who made a lot of money by circumventing planning while in charge, so it can be done.

When, like Emily, you understand rights as a zero sum game.

I suppose, looking on the positive side, their targeting of the RNLI, 'the best of us', might actually help people realise what these xenophobic thugs really are. I realise that 'hope' is often misplaced in today's mad world, but this anti-RLNI stuff feels rather like MAGA picking on Dolly Parton because she helped disadvantaged black children.

Pretty sure everybody loved Dolly Parton. She was apolitical and one of the few figures loved by the entire political spectrum. Her book scheme didn't differentiate and the only criticism I recall of it was from left leaning people who said it wasn't diverse enough in its choices.

Other AI answers say she was universally popular with the public across all political lines. One online article and 'isolated pushback' isn't the same as 'Maga picking on Dolly Parton because she helped disadvantaged black children'. In fact it's nothing to do with her Imagination Library at all. This is the same as when the other side chuck out unevidenced stuff; it's just denigration for the sake of it.
