Reform is a company, not a political party. As such it doesn't have members, it has mugs financing Farage's adventures subscribers.

I pointed this out to someone I know who has started filling my Facebook feed with Reform nonsense. She didn't have much of a comeback.

For once, entirely true.

Isn’t the worrying thing, that, no matter what you call them, 200,000 people are willing to actually put money in (assuming the claim is true, of course)?

What's it matter, it's not , as some describe a political party. As I understand, N Farage doesn't own any shares now, he relinquished them to the members.

Indeed, and if 200,000 are prepared to pay money into the pot, how many more support, not quite as fervently, but, nevertheless support. That really concerns me.

I mentioned my fears about the parallels of the political situation with the late 20s an early 30s of last century. The replies were along the lines of it can't happen here. Alas, it is happening.

Since I posted the 200k membership another 1000 have joined. If it carries on at this pace by summer >300k membership is possible

This won't be the first time it's happened, in this country in recent years. I wonder if the same will happen this time and the members list appears on the internet.

But you are failing to grasp the difference between a political party and a business.
Anyone can join Reform. Anyone, from anywhere in the world. Anyone who wants to give them money.

If they were a constituted political party they would be bound by the rules of political party membership. They would need a constitution. Only UK citizens could become members. Members would not be allowed to be members of other political parties etc.

As it is, you can be a member of the Conservative party but also a "member" of Reform. You can be a US Republican and be a member of Reform in order to give them money.

The 200,000 number represents the number of people in the world stupid enough to give them money. They have a huge lack of talent pool to exploit.

Reform UK is a registered political party, Reform isn't.

Good to know. Also worth noting that the number of members of Reform UK is not scrutinised or verified in any way, and they have been accused of manipulating the ticker on their website.

Also worth noting that whilst they have more members (apparently) than the conservatives, the Conservatives used to have a membership that numbered in the millions.

It was in the news that several news channels checked the registration and said it was genuine.

Millions of members is not something that has occurred for decades

Labour have been recently as low as 200,000, currently around 310k.

People don't join political parties like they used to
