Whilst I have no skin in the game, I do feel a bit sorry for him as a victim of circumstances.
He did far more than many of his predecessors ever did to combat historic sexual abuse, yet still had to go.
I worry that the happy clappy conservatives will now try to take the church back to the 1950s.

Could be worse, they could try to go back to the 1650s like in Gilead.

IMHO, he had to go, and, he needs to take all of his fellow collaborators with him.

Also, I am not sure why, given the percentage of the population who actually attend Church (in particular CofE Church), he, or his fellow Bishops, merit their seats in the Lords.

You are making the mistake of thinking the HoL is meant to be a meritocracy.

It is the establishment.

I get that, but, time is overdue for a shake up, and, we have a Labour Government with a big majority, so, time to get on with it.

Perhaps this could be another nail in the coffin.

When it boils down to it Labour, as a political party, are the establishment.

They will tinker to keep a few of their members onside but will not make major changes.

The mental gymnastics that goes on in the heads of Daily Heil writers must be exhausting.

If we got rid of the Bishops from the House of Lords it would make Iran feel very isolated making it the only remaining country where representatives of religious groups automatically hold seats in its legislature. At least our current arrangement makes Iran feel less isolated.

(Ignoring that The Vatical does also have "representatives of religious groups automatic seats in its legislature.").

Generally I don't mind taking the p1ss, but really?
For victims of abuse and their families, this is an issue that cuts deep.

Black humour is always black. A friend, older than I, told me that, in his youth, choirmasters and scoutmasters were always to be avoided.
