Yet so many whilst banging this drum seem to think its fine to abuse Farage and others whose views they disagree with

People need to look closer to home at time.

Abuse of anyone for their views, whatever they are, is wrong

There has been a steady erosion over my lifetime of standards of discourse. It is resulting in a general disinhibition.

I do not think that Ann W was a particular culprit, but the party she was a spokesperson for has undoubtedly pushed the boundaries.

It would be nice to imagine an event such as this causing people in public life to take it down a notch or two. However I fear that the result will be to empower some of them to do the opposite.

That’s a tricky one.
Surely we have to draw a line somewhere?
What about views which are illegal, hateful and discriminatory?

It should be fairly obvious to people that if you push the boundaries of public opinion, then you will attract unwanted attention.

I don't think any lessons can be learned from this; it does at the moment seem like a murderous loony set his sights on a once prominent political figure who had ideas the loony didn't agree with. I hate how the police and the press have released things like "communist literature was found at her house" like that's even relevant or newsworthy. I don't know if her address was online somewhere, but one of the main issues I guess is how he found out where she lived. Apart from that, it's a very sad scenario that one can do very little about, unless you want to retire as an MP and live in a fortress

No, he'll make a stand on principle as he was always against the waste within the EU the same as he never drew salary or expenses to be a part of a Parliament he didn't think should exist.

The interest alone on £5m would be £200,000 per annum even at just 4%. Which is a poor return.

You thought he was principled

He is, according to the principles of the highest bidder.

Being physically assaulted, or, murdered, is, I would argue, a bit more than "unwanted attention".

They never seemed so concerned in the past about their rhetoric firing up the sort of person who murdered Jo Cox though yet suddenly all the Leftie liberal media are using language that means Nige and Co are at risk.

I never mentioned Nige and Co, nor leftie Media. IMHO, it's wrong, regardless who it dishing it out or who is the victim.

Of course, I'm not suggesting you did but they were happy to dish out but now seem to be claiming that their the victims of a witchhunt that endangers their safety just because they are finally being put under reasonable scrutiny by the media. Suddenly people need to be careful with their words yet they have been the ones most guilty of incitement. They're using Widdecome's murder to try to bully those who are putting them under scrutiny which, much as I disliked many of her policies, feels like a cynical use of her murder.
