Hahaha. That's actually funny. Went upstairs for one minute straight after writing that and... yup, it did an involuntary restart. So it's going back to Amazon for a refund. I will replace it with the same, because it's a nice machine, especially for the price, and this must be an odd one.

Cheers me up that Amazon returns are free and a doddle... box it up, take the emailed QR code to the Post Office and off it goes. Glad I hadn't thrown away all the packaging.

Have actually already ordered a 14.1" version (as opposed to the 15.1" one I've returned), as actually it'll be ample, the like-for-like had gone up £50, so the new one is £130 less. It had better bloody work out of the box.

Much as I dislike Amazon I agree their returns are a good positive.

I'm currently having a massive argument with an LBS I ordered from online. Called them minutes sfter placing order to warn them UK distributor may have mislabelled a batch and could the spend a few secs and check what's actually in the box. They point blank refused. It was the wrong product and now they expect me to wait in an entire day for a courier or buy a new set of printer cartridges for a printer not used for years (and won't be used for years to come). I even said I'd pay and they refund postage and they refused that. Suggested they print the label (on their working printers) and post it to me - refused.

Forgot to post that... and since then...

Relieved that the new one hadn't be nicked from my doorstep (which is literally on the road) for five hours (not even a pavement, as the road's not wide enough).

You can tell that this smaller one is lower spec, in that it took a couple of hours to go through all the commissioning and updates with the CPU on 100%, but now that's done, all seems to be working fine, and no sudden restarts. Even better, I found I had a spare 128Gb Micro SD card which is now being formatted so it can be extra outboard memory. TBH, not that much gets saved onboard now, apart from photos after editing, so I suspect the 128Gb of onboard memory won't run out soon, but it's nice to have auto external backups anyway.

The mentality of people like this is beyond comprehension.
Fancy using a crutch to get up the hill in the first place.
Anyone who goes walking in mid winter has to be aware that by 4pm it’s dark and you need to be off the hill.
This article needs photos to name and shame.

I read the original rescue story, if I remember correctly they were in joggers and trainers which gives a clear indication of the level of knowledge and intellect on display. Sadly confirmed by their subsequent attitude and behaviour post rescue.

Does embarrassment count? Having cycled to the dentist in bib longs because it was threatening to piss down, I only realised (in my quest to sort out the admin with the receptionist before my appointed time) that I'd forgotten to put on the 'modesty shorts' once I found myself stretched out on my back on the dentist's chair. Cue rapid careful placing of hands for the rest of the check-up. I thought it best not to apologise as it'd only draw attention to, er, my mistake.

I often ride my recumbent and it's a low one (3½" ground clearance) and pedalling in a seat you padded shorts are uncomfortable. Although I did wear underwear, you soon appreciate that sitting so low with feet &legs raised high and in lose shorts ... pedestrians do wonder (like do people in kilts wear underwear?).

So I got myself several pairs of rowing shorts (lycra but no padding).

You've made me feel better now, as that would have been far worse, unless one had something like this stitched on strategically

Plus: an 'emergency' Windows update released today means that my old Samsung printer has reconnected again. Apparently the previous update had had a number of bugs & instabilities.

Minus: I'd already ordered a cheap HP printer to replace the old one. Might see if someone drives down to the French place if they could take it, as it'd be quite handy for printing out music there.

Plus: I've discovered WhatsApp 'broadcast lists', so I've done one to keep friends updated on ticker news, and it works, so I'll be able to order my deliveries of clementines from them when I'm in the Royal Brompton. The 'broadcast lists' don't share any contact details between recipients, but it means I can do one message that goes to up to 256 people, and each one can reply. Or ignore me. Anyway, it's a cool system.
