Someone reversed into the wife’s car in a hotel car park a few weeks ago. They somehow managed to reverse over the kerbed island between aisles. Luckily they reported it and after a bit of an insurance issue (the guy was in a hire car as he was visiting from overseas for work, hire company wouldn’t insure him as he was an inexperienced driver as well as foreign so it was supposed to go on the company fleet insurance but was overlooked) it went off for repair.
The damage was worse than you would expect for such a low speed bump but contained, as far as we could tell, to a dented bonnet and the grill / surrounding area being broken. Therefore, it came as a shock when she got an email to say it’s being written off at a value of £6600 (which is fair price). We could have had the car back as a Cat N with £2k taken off the payout for the scrap value so they are effectively saying it has £4.5k of damage. We did consider that option but couldn’t get a full report of the damage to quote against so it was too risky. It’s no wonder car insurance is so high if a few dented panels cost £4.5k to repair and it’s supposedly cheaper to just replace the whole car. The industry is severely farked.
