I have long held the opinion that the "left" have wanted this for so long due to the fact that younger people are ideologically more left leaning and therefore more likely to vote for left leaning parties (see Indyref). I see a lot of stuff at the moment that suggests this may be changing and, like you, fear this may backfire

Not least as Starmer is making so many Reformy noises, he's going to lose most of the student vote that Labour once might have relied on.

Agree.

The Ooooooooooh Jeremy Corbyn party animals of Glastonbury are now so last decade.

What do we have now to woo the kids? The Tate Party?

Re: Starmer Throws More MPs Out Of Labour Party
Unable to pursuade MPs to abandon their Labour principles Starmer resorts to throwing people out who won't blindly do what he tells them to do.

Maybe Starmer needs to learn that MPs are elected to represent their consituents not just do what they're told by somebody most of the country didn't vote for (or even get the chance to vote for).

Blair managed to survive without ever withdrawing the whip yet Starmer seems to prefer discarding non-compliant lobby-fodder.

Says a lot about Starmer and his (lack of) capability. Labour are certainly now off my list of being considered for any "X" in subsequent elections.

I suspect that is traditionally due to them most likely being anti-establishment which tended to mean left-wing Labour. These days that will translate to the snakeoil sales people who are trying to pass themselves off as being non-establishment like Reform or to independence parties in Scotland or Wales

This is the problem with the Westminster process.
As summed up by Andy Burnham

It's utterly bizarre. "Abandon long standing labour principles or you are out!". You can be more centrist without abandoning Labour core principles.

It would be improvement if Starmer moved to the centre.
