It isn't. Rayner acted with integrity and the tax mistake was due to a complex set of rules that she did not set out to breach. Farage has no integrity and his tax avoidance was deliberate because although he pretends to be a patriot he's a feckless liar, tax dodger, scrounger and arse-licker.

I'm aling him to explain the technical position of each in relation to tax avoidance etc. And still waiting for an answer.

Rayners severance pay is likely not be to paid to her

(iii) no person departing ministerial office while under investigation for allegations of gross misconduct or breaching the ministerial code will be entitled to a severance payment unless and until they are cleared of those allegations by the relevant authority; and makes provision as set out in this Order, to take effect unless such a Bill has been introduced by no later than Monday 26 February 2024:

Telegraph covers what I suspect will happen

No golden goodbye and drop in salary to backbencher, she faces huge bills and penalties from HMRC.

Hove flat most likely be on the market very soon.

More good news

housebuilding in the UK slumps to 10 year low despite Rayners attempts to build millions of homes.

Lammy will do much better, he can grow cervix, so should be easily upto a few bricks and mortar

I share your view of Farage.

However, he is very good at what he does.

Only Rayner knows the truth of what she did, but, to me it looks like she thought she had spotted a clever way to:

buy a flat in Hove,

Effectively return her share of the Ashton property, whilst releasing cash on its value

Dodge the second property stamp duty rate

She got rumbled.

Integrity would have involved taking the specialist tax advice Rayner was told to do by her conveyancing firm, and then not claiming they had given her any tax advice.
You are correct about Farage though.

See, you can't bring yourself to criticise her, yet you happily laid into all the last lot's misdemeanours....

She screwed up, has paid the price, but as the letter makes clear, it seems to have been inadvertent, and she's made amends quickly. Since you're making the comparison, compare that (say) to Zahawi, whose 'misdemeanour' was over 100x more serious, appeared to be deliberate, and he went to extent of legally threatening Dan Neidle not to reveal it, before eventually paying the fine and fessing up.

Being generous to Rayner, if she was 'lax' in seeking advice, she ignorantly drifted into evasion of stamp duty.

Looking at the whole picture
  1. She feared being beaten in the next election by Reform
  2. Saw an opportunity after NHS compensation payout of her son was settled
  3. Created a strategy to move principle residence to new property in a stronger labour area.
  4. Extracted money from her sons trust by over inflating her Manchester property
  5. Saw a wheeze of lowering stamp duty by ignoring guidance.
  6. Got found out by the press
  7. Resigned in disgrace
  8. No golden goodbye
  9. Sells Hove flat due to crippling costs from lower wage
  10. Can't move District to safe seat-political pariah
  11. Lose seat at next election
  12. Finds herself homeless
  13. On benefits
  14. Clogs to clogs in one lifetime

Lewis Goodall (The News Agents) sums it up as I would

To suggest that this is in the same league as the Tory behaviour I was happy to point out is stretching things (especially as most of these remained in post). Copilot's list:

Key Financial Scandals Involving Tory Ministers (2019–2024)

1. Partygate & Boris Johnson

  • Johnson was fined for breaking lockdown rules during government-funded gatherings at Downing Street.
  • Accusations of misleading Parliament led to his resignation as Prime Minister.

2. PPE Contracts & VIP Lane

  • Tory ministers were accused of using a “VIP lane” to award PPE contracts to associates.
  • Baroness Michelle Mone allegedly lobbied for PPE Medpro, which received an £81 million contract despite questions over its legitimacy2.

3. Rishi Sunak & Koru Kids

  • As Chancellor, Sunak faced scrutiny over a childcare firm, Koru Kids, which benefited from government funding.
  • The firm was linked to his wife, Akshata Murty, raising concerns about conflict of interest.

4. Dominic Cummings’ Lockdown Travel

  • Though not a minister, Cummings (senior adviser to PM) sparked outrage for his lockdown-breaking trip to Barnard Castle.
  • The scandal undermined public trust in government rules and accountability.

5. Gillian Keegan & Centerprise International

  • Keegan’s husband sat on the board of a firm that won £35 million in government contracts.
  • Critics questioned whether proper declarations and safeguards were in place.

6. Robert Jenrick & Property Developer

  • As Housing Secretary, Jenrick approved a £1 billion property deal for a Tory donor, Richard Desmond, allegedly bypassing planning rules.
  • He later admitted the decision was “unlawful.”

7. Matt Hancock & Lobbying

  • Hancock was accused of awarding contracts to companies linked to friends and family.
  • He also breached social distancing rules, leading to his resignation.

A direct quote from the Ethics Watchdog here: -
Leaving office having broken the ministerial code but with the ethics watchdog saying she had “acted with integrity and with a dedicated and exemplary commitment to public service”, potentially leaves the door open for a comeback, and she remains a powerful figure within Labour.

Its nothing to do with working class

She was always espousing the virtues of paying tax to the tories, often ferociously.
There are many clips and posts testifying to this from Rayner.

She was hoisted on her own petard

Simple as that.
