Again, we are back to "they will keep on coming and there is nothing we can do about it".
We used to have a tool. Now we have nothing. Any actual proposals?

The first action to take is to process arrivals quickly and efficiently so that there are no longer hotels bulging at the seams with increasingly disgruntled inmates. It's probable, based on current stats, that a majority will be given leave to stay and thus become economically active.

You (edit: PB) were posting as I was editing. Drastically reduce waiting time for a decision as I said. Ensure failed asylum seekers are removed asap.
Trouble is, these solutions cost more in staff costs than either the government or the public want to pay. Everybody moans about migrant hotels but they don't want to spend a billion quid on admin and Serco security officers and planes either.

If we want people to stop crossing the channel on inflatables like it's the Hunger Games we will need to be more proactive in stopping them setting off in the first place or basically say anyone arriving by the channel cannot be considered for residency. Whatever we have now is proving to be no deterrent at all. The French don't help either.

The 'tool' facilitated more people arriving than it facilitated leaving, so it wasn't much of a tool at all really.

On this we agree. Go back and you’ll see I’ve been saying this from the beginning.
Everything else is just grandstanding nonsense, by all governments.

Morgan McSweeney is under a bit of pressure now it seems

Wonder if lawyer who advised may also face an SRA investigation? Not sure an offence has been committed or not

I think that's exactly where we are and politicians should be honest about that.

The issue is how we manage the numbers and more importantly that we do so quickly so they're not waiting years.

Isn’t that simple?, we just scrap the vetting process, and, put free ferries on, say, twice a week.

Do you think he's under more pressure than he was?

We already knew about late declaration and an Electoral Commission fine.

Does disclosing advice from Stramash or whatever he's called up the ante?

I agree that it's unlikely any regulatory lines were crossed.

Did I say anything about scrapping the vetting process?

Neglect over the years mean that the processing system is a complete mess and needs reforming from the ground up.

I was offering a solution to the back log, not suggesting what you had or had not said.

Labour really highlighted how they can't out-Reform Reform and how they fail when they try. Farangê announces he's going to retrospectively stop "Indefinite Leave to remain" and deport vast numbers of settled people (nurses, care workers, etc.). Labour's response to that is "We're going to tighten-up the requirements for Indefinite leave to remain. Do Labour really think their "counter" will draw voters back from Reform? To me they just highlighted how futile it is trying to out-Reform Reform.

On that issue I think Lib Dem Davey countered Farangè's policy far better and more effectively rephrasing it as Farangë intending to deport vast numbers of NHS nurses.

Did you not hear the snippet. In the interim period, special short term visas will be allotted to crucial workers.

There will be a large British citizen recruitment to fill these roles to replace the workers when their visas are expired.

Something never really promoted before. MO was just keep importing cheap foreign labour forget the low skilled British

"The actual Prime Minster is still missing, presumed shït" is a good way of putting it: presumably he's still waiting for polling from McSweeney. FFS Starmer, have some views of your own, and express them.
