One area where Labour have completely messed-up is theirway way out of control listening to professional lobbyists from for profits with vested interests.

The same being true of the old-guard Democrats in Congress/Senate in the US.

She just needs plans to reduce non-capital spending. It really is that simple, and going back to how generous the UK welfare state was in 2010 whist maintaining longer term investment is not austerity.

This, basically. While was could debate an appropriate reference year, the country was not a blackened smoking wasteland when government spending on non-capital areas was lower.

Sadly, given Labour's abject failure to cut even modest amounts off the welfare bill, the chances of this happening under the current government are pretty much zero.

I've chosen 2010 because it was the last year of the last labour government. When everything was great.

It wasn't, but it was better. My point is more towards all of the backbenchers who have kneejerk opposition to anything that might upset anyone.

I'll give Rayner her props for getting to where she is from humble beginnings, but do I think she's fit to be governing the country? Not for a minute. The probability of this government getting consumed by a sovereign debt crisis before the next election is quite high and I don't think there are any grown ups in the cabinet who are equipped to deal with that. Let's see what the future brings. One of us will be right.

A couple of bits of light reading. I offer these as a counter to what I see as incredibly complacent attitude to the state we are in that I see on this forum. Doubtless some will dismiss these viewpoints because of who authored them and all I can say is "Stick around" and we'll see who is proven right by events. I'm not tribal about this, both parties have contributed to our downfall but to say that Labour are ill equipped to turn it around is an understatement of epic proportions. I don't expect Farage to work any miracles either in the event that he wins the next election (that could come a lot sooner than planned it crisis turns to catastrophe). Dark days lie ahead.

I'm not Nostradamus but my predictions of catastrophe are looking ever more likely. I stand by my theory that whilst another Sunak government might have been terrible in many ways it was probably the least worst option. I don't see a lot of contrition from the "But evil Tawies" mob. How is voting Labour working out for you?

Fine for me, badly for the country.
I still think Sunak would have continued the rot and been worse. Up to this point in time anyway.

Could you point to any areas of improvement under the Labour Government that have helped you arrive at your conclusion? Or at least say why you think Sunak would have made things worse?
