In the last Any Questions Stephanie Flanders kept pointing out that Canada and Mexico have a trade deal with the US negotiated with Trump, and it didn't help them. The government minister kept ignoring that point.

A trade deal negotiated with no other than Donald Trump. He is not only (supposed to be) bound by it, he set it up.
Quotes were something along the lines of "best trade deal in the world" to "worst deal in the world, whoever would agree to that?".

Re: Tariffs
Weird/daft thing as I see it is Starmer spending all his time clutching his ankles for Trumpton frantically trying to negotiate a Free Trade Deal whilst doinf virtually nothing with our largest trading partner who would love a closer deal with the UK and despite after his election he was continually talking about his seeking a "Reset with the EU relationship".

Canada has a Free Trade Deal with the US yet they were one of the first to get. impacted by US tariffs so why are we (UK) so despersate for the same arrangement? Why isn't Starmer spending his efforts on better trade with our closest largest trasding partner?

Ian

It's the "special relationship" isn't it?, mush more important than those pesky Europeans. ;)

Starmer might be "mr inaction" but why are the UK Gov not announcing:
"The invitation to the PResident of the US for a Royal State Visit ihas been put on hold pending a review. Royal State visits are an honour offorded only to our closest allies and recent actions by the President of the US are not those of an ally to the UK".

Not starting a trade war, pointing out to Trump Starmer is not just clutching his ankles (again) and welcoming any and all bullying. And the "review" can always conclude that Trump has acting in some unforeseen beneficial manner and the State Visit is progressing.

As things stand with what I've seen of UK public opinion (polls) Trump turning up for a satte visit would not go down well and would further turn public opinion away from Starmer/Labour.

It does beggar belief that the invitation still stands.
Can the Scottish government up the rates on Turnburry to about £10 bn too?
