In the end I reckon that there is a groundswell of popular opinion on immigration that he has to do something about (or at least be seen to do something), otherwise we will likely be seeing a bloke called Nigel living in Downing Street in 2029.

I'm not going to answer that all point by point other than to say the Dutch research I linked to suggests GP's in the Netherlands aren't that confident in the system, whether it's confidence in dementia patients genuinely making an informed decision or confidence that relatives weren't swaying the decision.

Not entirely in 2016 or actually shortly there after as the euthnasia was in 2016 a docter/GP was procecuted for like the procecution/dutch CPS) said ''murdering'' and 74 year old lady. in 2020 the court/judge rules the GP was not guilty, the lady had made and declaration beforehand(when she was still able to) and to other doctors also agreed she was suffering, the procecution/dutch CPS) based their case ion the fact the ladyon the last moment wast talking incoherently and according to them the GP should have talked with her again. The court/judge agreed with the doctor, family and the two other doctors that it would have lead to extra stress and would have been pointless and agreed with the doctor that her earlier declaration was enough.
so with this in mind it's not that strange doctors are not to confident with dementia patients, it's also due to the whole nature of the condition.

Assisted dying for mental health reasons has gone up in the last ten years from 2 in 2010 to 219 in 2024 in the Netherlands. Could that be because as you say "Most mental health inflicted/motivated suicides are caused by the fact it takes such a goddamn long time to actually get the help needed"?

It could however we should also take into account that over the period you mention a lot has changed in term of social acceptance, discussion and the willingness for people to ask for help. So that clouds the numbers and than there also the law in euthnasia/asisted dying is only from 2002 so you could argue that in 2010 the law was quite new so that's an other reason why it wasn't used that much in 2010

You can indeed check the numbers and see how long the average waiting list is, both here in in the Netherlands, that the medication often subscribed for many different conditions can cause a higher sucide risk is also public knowledge so yes it's all in the numbers mate.

That is the reality that Starmer faces I think. Not sure if you read my link to the Danish approach to immigration, but the Danish PM claims that has limited the growth of the populist party/parties in the country.
