"The UK has experienced its most significant drop in billionaires ever recorded, the Sunday Times Rich List 2025 has revealed. This year's list, which ranks Britain's wealthiest individuals and families, highlights a continuing downward trend in the billionaire population for the third year running.

While the Hinduja family retains the top spot with a fortune exceeding £35 billion, the overall number of billionaires has fallen to 156 from 165 in 2024. This decrease marks the steepest decline in the Rich List's 37-year history, coinciding with Labour's crackdown on the non-dom tax status."

“Our billionaire count is down and the combined wealth of those who feature in our research is falling,” said Robert Watts, compiler of the Rich List.

“We are also finding fewer of the world’s super rich are coming to live in the UK.”

Have they left or has their wealth been down valued? As the wealth is usually based on valuations of company shares etc. it doesn’t seem unlikely that the number can drop by such small numbers without them physically leaving. Also what happens if a billionaire at the lower end dies and the wealth gets divided? For example, David McMurtry died at the end of 2024 and I believe was just about a billionaire but had 3 children so if the wealth got split that’s three very rich people but 1 less billionaire.

Clearly they aren't given the numbers. Not sure how much is weather related and tbh the only major city that matter to most billionaires is London. Don't think Birmingham would attract many even it it wasn't a bit of a tip 🙂

London seems fairly well regarded. York, Edinburgh, Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Inverness. Just a list of nice cities off the top of my head.
