What successive government's have done is devalue the working wage.
When I was a kid my Mum stayed at home full time, my Dad worked full time but was able to pay a mortgage, raise 4 children and have enough money for us to go in a family holiday.
Now, youngsters can't afford a house even as a couple joining their wages. We live as a nation in perpetual bordline debt.
To increase GDP each government has imported more and more people to bolster the economy but further devaluing the working wage.
We need less people, more skilled home grown and trained youngsters

She did try at least once but (imo) knew it was a lost cause.
He won't answer direct questions on specifics with direct answers, because he can't. It's all unicorns and anyone with sense knows this.
It would be fun if someone would continually badger him a la Brian Walden though.
The BBC Criteria (you quoted) says "... electoral support at national level which each party enjoys.". Lib Dems have significant;ly higher electoral support as evidenced by the number of MPs. Polling results 4 years away from next election are not really "electoral support".

I don't think it's as simple as 'Sort housing and you sort everything' like some people say, but the affordable housing crisis is a really big part of the problem. There are affordable parts of the UK but that thing of buying your first flat or house on one income in your mid/late 20's is a pipe dream for many youngsters unless it's Bank of Mum and Dad assisted. I can't see any cheap or painless way out of it either. Not sure the plan to give ftb's a x6 salary mortgage helps.
Maybe the plan is if you're working till 70 you can get a x6 salary 45 year mortgage. Joined up thinking at last ...
We need fewer capitalists creaming off the top.
