It'll only get lengthy if CXRAndy gets involved with some ill informed pish about the system.

Yes, well, I don't accept any responsibility for his ill-informed views, which is why I asked the question (relating to his post) in the first place.

If you go and work in another country, you're expected to be able to support yourself, by earning a sustainable wage.

If you lose your job, you either get another one quick or move back home.

Does that figure include foreign nationals who have lived here (possibly for may years), worked, paid their taxes etc etc,

As usual, the clickbait headline masks the truth.

Universal Credit is a household benefit, so one claimant could be a UK national and the other a foreign national who has leave to remain.
The DWP statement makes it clear that it is not solely foreign nationals who are the re recipients of this money: “We are unable to apportion the total amount to each individual, therefore we have stated “at least one claimant.”

But the xenophobes prefer the deceptive headline, as always.

78% of statistics are made up on the spot.

I doubt many people really care, but we'll no doubt be told how it's an anti-Semitic outrage and a terrible threat to the security of Israel.

Before getting all outraged we need to better understand what's meant by foreign nationals in this context.

Most recent arrivals, ie post Brexit, on work etc visas have a no public funds clause so no UC for them.

UC ends up subsidising employers who under pay and landlords who over charge.
