His apology was a bit of a non apology. He was 30 when he made those tweets, so not immature. It's unlikely that his citizenship will be revoked so the government, and those who supported him, will just have to suffer the embarrassment and stick him on a watchlist with those with similar views. At least we know his views and can keep an eye on him now.

At great expense to the taxpayers. Get rid of him now. Egypt will pull his citizenship, they won't want him back

I thought his apology was reasonable, explaing the circumstances where he was 13/15 years ago. Possibly it wasn't embellished enough for some newspapers with the appropriate level of grovelling.
