We can't though as one begets the other.
It is a cycle we either have to break or accept.

Given the vast resources and wealth in the world the real question is, why is half the world a horrible place to live?
Why not make it better instead of individuals richer?

Fair point, but, perhaps best addressed to the Rulers/Leaders/Governments of the "horrible places". Not exclusively of course, we in the West have done our bit, in some instances.

True. We've contributed a lot to making those countries unlovable due to both climate change and sticking out political oars in.
