Man's delusional

And, the EU youth mobility thing...had he not done that already?

Just highlights that he doesn't understand the problem.

One does wonder how many "last chance salon" visits the Labour Party are going to give Starmer. This just seems a rerun of the previous "last chance salon" visit followed by a failed "reset", preceded by another "last chance salon visit" .... etc.

I can understand some Labour MPs not wanting action yet when they favour Rayner or Burnham as neither are in available as contenders yet.

But to assume that changing PM will throw the country into chaos is just arrogant. And all these international challenges supposedly requiring Starmer remain PM, UK seems totally irrelevant to any influence over what's happening in the Middle East and we've been through 3 changes of PM and our support for Ukraine seems to have been stable.

I think the main problem is who’s going to do a better job?
If the answer is nobody then there is no point in switching.

The issue does raise one aspect to our supposedly democratic system of governance. With so much power now centred on the PM how many of the electorate get a vote determining who gets all the PM power?

In that case, they can FRO. If the Greens are in with a chance, they'll get my vote, despite my many qualms.

OTOH, this might prompt wavering Labour MPs to tell cloth-eared Starmer where to go. That they still think that they can cherry-pick on Europe, and make it obvious to the EU that that's what they want to do, shows that they are completely out of ideas.

Bridget has to be part of the purge. Unusual for me I put the obnoxious Kuenssburg* on this morning, Bridget was there towing the Starmer line. I'm still somewhat unclear as to what it is - something along the lines of doing the same but ... No I've no idea.

*Bonus appearance from mad Nad and had to turn off when Tice came on.

I think it's the unsubtlety of it: she's basically directly slapping all the MPs and supporters who are asking them to dial back the Reform-leaning xenophobia, and the ones asking for more enthusiastic EU noises (and asking for realism: cherry-picking cakeism is never going to work).

It's a "That didn't work, so we're just going to do it harder!" FRO message. And more and more people will. And Reform voters *still* won't vote Labour, cos Reform does it 'better', if that's your politics.

Of course it's a broad church, as the Tories used to be. But a big chunk of them have always been (to use a cliché) the liberal left - academics, educated well-off types, students, etc., and who were instrumental in giving Starmer his massive majority in 2024. They feel utterly betrayed by the overt anti-migrant rhetoric. I know, because I've really just described my bubble. Mahmood telling them - or rather, us - to FRO, only confirms the sense of betrayal.

As I've said previously, their massive majority gave them some leeway to 'change the conversation', with hard data to prove their points... instead, they've just agreed with the prejudices, despite the data.

Says it all 😊

Bridget is MP for Houghton and Sunderland South, at the moment...... 😊

Might be a reason to focus her mind a bit more on improving Labour electoral performance.

Exactly. My local MP ( and her fellow Labour MP in the adjoining constituency) appear to be doing so by ditching Starmer. Both currently posting “Starmer must go” stuff on Social Media.

She wants regional mayors to have more economic powers?? Even a big name like Burnham only got 30% of the electorate out to vote in the mayoral elections, of which he got about 60% of the votes cast. Local mayors would be spending hundreds of millions of pounds based on a tiny mandate. I wonder if Burnham's promised her her job back.
