Depends on whether that 'consultation' was with a balanced panel, or requesting input from a Mumsnet WhatsApp group. I suspect the latter.
I'd assumed it was a standard public open Government consultation where anybody can respond. Often it's a rather long questionnaire format and non-trivial but depends on what is being consulted on.

On the radio this morning apparently the Government consultation on online child safety 9 out of 10 parents submitting comments wanted a Social Media ban. But maybe Starmer is too weak to actually enforce one so is sort of trying to make it look like he's doing something without doing something.

Reality is, if Social Media presents a child with pornographic or violent material does it really make a big difference if that's at 10:00 am or 21:00 in the evening. I'd have thought it's the content that's important not the time of day the child sees it.

1. How representative was the sample in the survey?

2. What people say in a survey, and, what they say/do in .”real life” are not the same (IMHO)

There's more flaws in it than the Burj al khalifa.

One example is that my daughter has been Type 1 diabetic since she was 11. Her blood glucose monitor relies on her mobile phone. Her phone cannot be set into any form of 'child' mode or the app doesn't work.

It was a Government Consultation not a survey. ie when Government proposes legislation it then goes through a consultation phase before being finalised and before being presented to Parliament.

Many consultations are open and anybody can chose to respond with their input eg https://www.gov.uk/search/policy-papers-and-consultations
If you are concerned about an issue you can chose to provide input, not a question of "pro" or "anti" but normally more detailed covering different aspects of the proposal, highlight weaknesses, etc.

I think You Tube are pretty good at getting rid of dodgy material these days. There's a lot of good stuff on there like musical tuition that kids can benefit from. X but not Bluesky? Maybe it will include Bluesky when it's drafted.

I did notice Tiktok have a media campaign promoting all the supposed safeguards on their product. The legislation being mulled by several countries and the US court cases have obviously got them rattled.

They will still be able to watch Youtube. It's a ban on opening accounts.

The elephant in the room is how they plan to make adults prove they are over the age limit.

Parental Controls are not a single On/Off setting. It depends what Parental Controls are blocking what functionality in the app.

eg there was a much reported issue 4 or 5 years ago in Camdiab app blockign it sending messages. Often "blocks" are not necessary and can be through lazy coding eg using 3rd party libraries that do require access through parental controls.

eg Blocking making AppStore purchases would not block a medical app from running but would block children from downloading (and thus accessing) VPN services, etc., etc.

On iPhones you create either an adult account or child account tied to family. The child account type is heavily restricted and cannot be used if you need your iphone as a medical device due to the restrictions that Apple impose.
