Genuinely wasn't sure there whether it was experimental music or band night at a nursing home featuring people who had never learned to play instruments...

Genuinely wasn't sure there whether it was experimental music or band night at a nursing home featuring people who had never learned to play instruments...

If I get to the point of having absolutely no idea what performers are trying to communicate, and they give me no 'handle' on what I'm listening to (even if it's just 'groove', or a hint of harmony, or something, anything which relates to something that has a little relevance to recognisable sound worlds), I'm afraid my patience runs thin. It ends up being like listening to someone speaking in a completely foreign language with no reference points to help me get the first idea what is being said.

Same. Music is about connection, pattern and shape to me. To be able to join in, you become part of the pattern. With this stuff you could hit your head on a wall and it wouldn't be noticeable that you weren't part of the performance.
