So we're one step further away from democracy today. It's all very well Labour saying these things should be decided in the Commons but when they rig the vote at the next General Election, no one will be allowed to protest. And I have seen nothing to indicate that this Government has anything vaguely resembling democratic in its overall drift.

Nothing to say that Labour would try and reverse it when elected either....there was a time when Labour used to fight for things like people's rights.

The group using the meeting house were Youth Demand. Their website site says they are planning disruptive action in April, some of which might be illegal I guess, so that might account for the police visit.

Are they a proscribed organization? If not what laws did those attending break that justified their arrest? Police seem very ready to arrest then "no charge" later once they realise they/ve f'd up. And that goes on to cause the victim grief for years to come.

Still, at least we'll be used to such a life once Putin takes over.

At a guess it would be planning to break laws eg.

If there was a meeting of a different group - say a right wing group - that the police believed were meeting to plan law breaking events, do you think the police shouldn't intervene?
I agree, sometimes the process is the punishment and the police do overstep their authority on occasion. The charges are 'conspiracy to cause a public nuisance' so we'll have to see if they proceed to court with them.

Fair point, BUT ... it's a bit of a stretch, isn't it?

I await more detail (hopefully with an open mind!), but the heavy-handed nature of these arrests (did they actually need to break the door down? A meeting at a Quaker House?? ) makes me somewhat pessimistic ...
