And Beijing are not happy (which is normal) with the HK Gov's response to Omicron which, tbh, is a total shitshow.
We've went from the lowest death toll in the world, which was the case for about 2 years, to the highest in about 3 weeks all due to the sheer arrogance the HK Gov and the CHP (our health department).
However, Zero Covid will still be around until the autumn as the CCP have a big do in Beijing to enoble Emperor Xinnie the Pooh into a third term, something not seen since Mao and nothing will be allowed to ruin that.

Pleased to see you have survived, so far. Other than the effect on the actual people involved, ie those actually catching, and possibly dying of Covid, interesting to see that we are not alone in our incompetence.

What is happening to the hospital admission rate? Isn't that the crucial measure? At some point we are all going to have to live more normally and accept a small level of risk.
From Sunday the measures here finally run out, and mask wearing etc. will be voluntary. The states have significantly reduced powers to enforce restrictions (which they are not happy about). This is despite a record number of infections - has turned the corner with under 35's but still rising with over 60's.

Not sure about the admission rate (it doesn't look as steep as it was in January) but UK hospital occupancy is at its highest since early 2021 and about to pass the first-wave peak, but there are some treatments and more equipment now so ICU isn't anywhere near as busy. Still far too many people being put at unnecessary risk of long covid IMO.
It's looking like Boris was wrong back in early Feb to say that the Omicron wave had peaked. The dropping of all restrictions at the wrong moment seems to have resulted in a third double-peak wave of hospitalisations. Here's hoping the second peak doesn't turn out to be the highest, as happened in the last two double-peaks:
Yes, but we don't get to choose when that point comes. We are not in control of this virus and pretending that we are, declaring "victory" or "freedom day" too soon, is foolish and deadly. We should see the world as it is, not as we wish it were.
I am sorry to read that Germany may be following us off this cliff. I hope that lifting restrictions about six weeks later is long enough that what may be a seasonal summer lull comes soon enough to spare you.
The main problem is that with the reduction in the load on hospitals it becomes harder to justify the suspension of basic rights enshrined in the constitution. The courts would be likely to throw out some of the existing measures on this basis.
The pandemic law ran out on 21st March, but all the Länder took advantage of an extra two weeks' extension it granted, so in effect the measures lapsed last Sunday. Most people are carrying on with masking, and hopefully this will see us through until the rate is much lower. There are still provisions under the replacement law for strict measures in hotspots.
Interestingly the vote on mandatory vaccination is being held today. From age 18 is now a non-starter, and it looks as though from age 60 will be the compromise solution. It is still going to be difficult to enforce.
