There's a scene in The Handmaid's Tale TV series -I can't remember if it is in the book too- where a Mexican woman diplomat asks the commander's wife how she copes with not being allowed to read the books she wrote before the revolution. The wife gives a fluff answer, but is obviously taken aback by the question. I wonder how many MAGAts are starting to realise what the reality of what they supported is going to be.

I don't think the MAGAs will. It's a cult, they've been conned, and as with all cons the last person to realise they are the conman's mark...is the mark. Some Trump voters are already realising what they've done.

It's a bit like Brexit. Nobody is trying to argue that it was anything other than a disaster, but if you press Brexit voters on it they will clam up. Nobody likes to think they've been fooled.

Trump tells his voters what they want to hear. A lot of it is about cruelty to groups of people who aren't them and they like the cruelty (CXR is one of these). The other part of it is telling them how wonderful everything is. It's like a sort of heroin...it'll make you feel good, but it's an illusion and when it wears off your life is shìt so you have another dose.

To be fair, it's lost 50% from the peak value it gained in December 2024. You could also argue that the December bump has finished and the price is back down to what it was before that huge bump. So back to normal as opposed to the artificial rise caused by the election.

Where it stops falling will be the interesting bit. You would expect it to level off now. I have a hunch it might not...

I agree - I looked at a chart of its value for the last year and it was clear that it has just dropped to its average value for that time
maybe a bit low

but it did have a general downward slope still - and reports of problems around the world suggest that it willcontinue to fall

Looters and rioters were prosecuted for setting fire to a hotel intending murder on the people inside. They broke windows and set the curtains on fire. Similar attacks have been made on other hotels with migrant people inside. People on social media were inciting this violence.

Again - you do seem to have this issue with non-binary thinking. Just because I don't think the state should be prosecuting people as terrorists for vandalising tesla chargers and dealerships, it doesn't follow that I think the perpetrator shouldn't be prosecuted or that I think setting fire to stuff is a great idea.

There are perfectly normal, regular charges that can be brought against a person for setting fire to a Tesla dealership. Arson being the principle one. It's already illegal to do this. Where we get into problems is when the President of a country vows to use his powers to illegally punish and make an example of people for perceived slights against his "friends". Trump is trying to be a low rent mafia boss.
