Just a thought. Why not "around 43 ,000" or " more than 40,000"?

Who's keeping such a precise tally from the heat and mess of war, much of it from distance and the air?

There is an argument that rounding down mere dead people counting less than a thousand is pretty disrespectful to those dead.

I would in no way think that was your intention here, but I could imagine some seeing it that way, and I wonder if this has led to a "style guide" type thing in the press?

One of the problems of forming a balanced view as to how things might progress. I find it encouraging that Ukraine is now able to go more into fighting a war rather than just defending but impossible to form a balanced view on the longer term.

I stopped doing that because my posts were getting very long.

FWIW, I never once suggested that this war would be over by winter.
I hope it will be but I just don't know. I'm hoping with all the current factors will reach critical mass.

I wasn't questioning the validity of your posts but rather I have no appreciation whether Russians can be posting similar. Hence impossible to form a balanced view

Eg you tell us Ukraine has destroyed 3 Russian oil refineries but what if in the same time window Russia has destroyed 10 Ukrainian oil refineries.

This puts our country in a very precarious situation, and also leaves us defenseless, say, if China made a move on Taiwan. So of course this means that Trump continues to tout that a “deal” is imminent and the markets are buying into it."

I've always thought it a major weakness that POTUS is also CiC - investing so much in one person who might or might not follow the advice of all his top military personnel is a high-risk strategy, and having someone with all of Trump's character flaws (not least the Dunning-Kruger thinking he's the cleverest person in the room, and his replacing all the top people with white male sycophants) was always going to end in disaster.
