think there's a genuine feeling within the country that NATO is trying to intimidate Russia.

Having met more than a few Russians, I would put those concerns on a par with the genuine concerns of the black shorts with regards to immigration in here. Their concern is that those uppity Georgians, or Ukrainians or Armenians don't appreciate Russian "love". I am not defending NATO, I'm pointing out that the Russian attitude comes from the same desire of dominance of who they consider their inferior neighbours.

Not NATO. S America is outside its remit and Greece/Italy were before NATO was formed. There were no threats to USSR territory. You are conflating NATO with the CIA/US.

They are stationed in Europe with the permission of the host nations.

Your question simply asked what other countries have done stuff.

Russia - in response to what, do you think?

IMO putin is really driven by the decline of Russia, from imperial/soviet empire to irrelevance. NATO really has little to do with it. Look at what happened in the former Yugoslavia where Russia were basically impotent, and Iraq where putin was basically ignored by the west. His whole pitch is about making russia into a superpower which dominates it's own sphere of influence. If NATO was really such a threat he wouldn't be provoking the west. The ironic thing is that he has succeeded in revitalising and alliance which was struggling to remain relevant.

You didn't answer my question, you answered a question that wasn't asked...outside the thread context of Russia/NATO.

Your question was this:-
There may well be a genuine feeling within the country but is that because of what they see, or the rhetoric of Putin? And intimidation is a regular tactic of Putin's...how many other leaders of nuclear armed countries regularly threaten other countries with the use of it, or jail and/or kill any serious internal political challengers.

I don't see the relevance of NATO to the question. Putin has acted in similar fashion to countries outside NATO. So has the US, as I said.

The discussion is in the NATO/ Russia context , of course it is relevant, especially as you raised the issue of Russian feelings of intimidation by NATO.

My question was specific on two parts, one was about leaders of nuclear countries threatening others with the use of them...as Putin has done, the other was about killing/jailing internal challengers as Putin has done, both as intimidation tactics. You answered neither of those, but went on another tack.

The US has done some terrible stuff especially across S America and the Middle East but that is not NATO and has not threatened Russia, except possibly in its influence in those countries.

I think we might have to disagree on the relevance of the various campaigns by various parties to influence, intimidate, or invade other countries.

Indeed. Russian 'love' is all about satisfying money, Oligarch's and power. There was little love spread around in Syria. There's not much love spread around by the Wagner group in Africa, they didn't have a lot of love for 33,000 Chechens. Their whole relationship with former Soviet countries has been coercive. Not a lot of love there.
...and let's not forget the assassinations abroad.

Now we are beginning to see the whole picture of the hybrid war, the bots, the influencers, the links to right wing groups, the infiltration in the USA, the movers and shakers paid by the Kremlin:

[BBC] President Donald Trump appointed Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to lead a new federal AI task force that reports directly to him and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles
Susie Wiles however: Daughter of White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is being paid $35k/month, as a lobbyist, working for the Russians in the Balkans. Here she is in a photo uncovered by CBS, posing with the Interior Minister of the pro-Russian authoritarian government of Republika Srpska.

It's an insidious and far reaching web.

Noting your post was yesterday and there have been silence from Russia and subsequent attacks by Russia.
Anyway, Ukraine may not want to agree to not hitting refineries and doesn't stick to his word
If I were Zelensky I'd be going all out with attacks on Russian hydrocarbon industries. Zelensky's response made it clear that he hand't been told even the terms of the ceasefire (Trümp claimed he agreed without his knowledge). His response made it clear he's agree if Russia did and to date Russia's only response has been continuing its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

So Ukraine's choice is to sit there and "take it" or continue with their defence.

The Ukrainian missile attack on Russian military positions in Donetsk on August 26th resulted in the death of at least 20 officers, according to an investigation published on October 9th by the independent Russian outlet Mediazona. According to the publication, this is the highest number of Russian Army officers killed in a single attack during the large-scale war against Ukraine.

The investigation identifies seven colonels, six lieutenant colonels, five majors, one captain, and one lieutenant. Eighteen died on the day of the attack, and two others later succumbed to their injuries, as highlighted by this investigation.

Which begs the question: why does the USA want to imposrt Diesel from Russia? Potentially, Russia is importing diesel from India and then exporting it to Brazil...!?
