An Iranian aquaintance of mine knew nothing about Bara Brith, Laverbread or Cawl until he came to live in Swansea. Strange that.

Mind you, he’s probably better off not knowing about Laverbread.

I assume so. The calling all pasta makaroni rings a bell.

It's a tough place my memory. I went to someone else's house as well and I have no idea what I ate there. I do recall his incredibly open and scathing opinion of the ayatollah though.

I don't think I've ever met an Iranian who doesn't have an scathing opinion of the ayatollahs and assorted hangers on.

But what do they think about the return of their hereditary monarchy. Some UK News reports I've seen have had appearances from Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who seems to think he'll be returning to his father's position once the Iranians throw out the current government.

That is a divisive issue. Inside Iran I don't think he has much reach. Outside of Iran there's a section of exiles that think that restoring the Pahlavi dinasty will bring back the lives they had before the revolution.

I guess a figurehead will be important in any regime change, but the Pahlavi regime in it's heyday was hardly a beacon of democracy, fairness and integrity, imo. Maybe that will appeal to POTUs, a useful puppet.

Indian food is not hot (apparently) or maybe it is hot after being in the oven for a time. When travelling India initially I was cautious asking "not too hot" in restaurants and they'd amusingly ask "Want us to cook it in the fridge?" because they considered their food "spicy" not "hot".

Indian food ain't hot. Thai food is.
However, Friday night is curry night at Casa Pinno and sometimes visitors go a bit red in the face so perhaps we're growing tolerant without realising.

I Like medium hot and very spicy. Last night was Lamb Biryani with home made Naan.
It was (and wasn't) the dogs danglies.

Anyhoo. What's happening in Ukraine/Russia?
I feel like I have to stay away from the Donald Dump thread. Especially after watching some random repulsive @rsehole on YT shout with a megaphone to protestors in MIniapolis "...we executed one of you yesterday...".

It’s just like a scene from The Purge, which is kind of apt, given all the curry talk.

Biryani is the Indian take on Persian food.
