Somewhat off-topic but reflecting earlier and it struck me how much our view of Russia has changed and how quickly. Wasn't that long ago (maybe 10 years) that my Dad got awarded a medal by Putin (Russian ambassador actually gave it to him, not Putin) and he was very proud, dressed up for the award ceremony, etc. and there was no negative sentiment about Russia at the time, nobody expressing "but ...".
Were the same to happen today I can't imagine my Dad would accept the medal let alone attend any award ceremony, etc.

Odd that there was little antipathy towards Putin after what he did in Chechnya. (1999-2009).
I didn't miss is at the time.

If I am going to die, I'd rather fly on a classic Il - 62 or a TU - 154.
That said, an Il - 76 would be kinda' cool.

That said, you do realise that usually, a very very old aircraft is usually better maintained/ monitored than a new one, because there are so many extra checks and hurdles they have to comply with.

Given they were crashing before, no (but that's the point of my post), but a certain level of common sense must come over people, I mean, why are there not planes crashing right left and centre in North Korea?

Actually, TBH, it could depend on the individual aircraft, but then, a brand new aircraft can still crash... shoot happens and we are all in a big lottery anyway.
