I'm guessing that another source of confidence for Zelenskyy is that he can now see that Trump can't give Putin much more support without it being utterly obvious/direct: there's no lifeline to Ukraine for Trump to withdraw, as he's done that already (and Ukraine didn't cave), and the bonus of rising oil prices and lifting of some sanctions against Russia doesn't seem to have made much difference (at least in the short term), as the military machine is now so degraded.
Given the number of people who fall out of windows, I suspect that Putin, and Trump are largely only told what they expect to hear, and don't hear the truth a lot of the time.
I has all the hallmarks of a Trump grump, as does the decision to withdraw 5000 troops from US bases in Germany.
It's quite something to watch a toddler progressively make the US voluntarily irrelevant, with the Republicans refusing to wield any of their constitutional power to rein him in.
My thought is that this will have no real impact of European security. Putin already knows that Europe can't rely on NATO Article 5 and is really dependent on Article 42.7 TEU (EEAS, so nothing to do with NATO). So those US troups are really just a drain on German military budget - given how Germany provides a fair number of resources to the US for stationed troops for free. It's more expensive for the US to barrack its troops back in the US than to have them stationed in Europe due to the assistance Europe provides for free.
