The Kremlin are getting a bit ballsy, they've told Putin the Ukraine war is not sustainable and the country could be in deep trouble financially.
Lots of sources for it, google away.

Couldn't he (Putin) just adopt Modern Monetary Theory, print whatever money he needs and fund the necessary weapons etc?

I imagine he could do lots of things, but Kremlin officials are speaking out, not very long ago they'd be out the top window for this. Things are changing. Maybe we should have a new thread on the likely implosion of Russia (again!), I'd put £50 on it anyway.

But that causes inflation.

He's trying to bring in a law that converts any savings above (IIRC) £20k into govt. bonds without any choice. That's why an awful lot of cash has been withdrawn recently and this will affect the banking system.

The ICC put out a warrant for Putin's arrest on charges in 2023.
Wasn't that for (allegedly) abducting Ukrainian children rather than attacking civilian targets.

I wonder if it might encourage more countries to impose tougher sanctions were ICC to add charges.

Assuming my memory of the 2023 charges is not incomplete.

And who is going to accept his devalued and unstable currency in exchange for weapons or raw materials?
Nobody.

The more his economy crashes, the more he has to fall back on valuable raw resources such as oil. Which is why Ukraine is stopping his oil and gas production. China takes the majority of Russian exports, but they are rapidly building renewable infrastructure to cut ties with the Kremlin. Other countries are trying to do the same - albeit more slowly.

...and, Putin has been offloading tons of gold bullion.

[Very long post with lots of fun and games for all the family and pictures for the album]

As Putin assembled people for the St Petersburg Economic Forum, the back drop was Russian oil infrastructure and 2 frigates were burning. Notably, 'Boyky' which once shepherded the shadow fleet through the English channel controversially in 2023.

The Tate brothers rocked up to this prestigious propaganda event:

In defence of the St Petersburg Economic forum was this brave soul with his rifle trying to shoot down drones as they flew around overhead with absolute freedom. Here he is pictured in the middle just before onlookers left the scene laughing at him.

Apart from strikes on St Petersburg, the 'Progress' factory 500km's from Ukraine's border which manufactures aircraft and rocket control systems as well as a wide range of civilian electronic components and equipment for gas and oil pipelines was hit.

These are just 2 pics of multiple strikes:

Therein lies the duality where Ukrainian drones are becoming faster, lighter with longer ranges whilst Russian air defences dwindle - no Starlink support and decimated stocks to the point that the drones are just about penetrating anywhere in Russia without resistance.

Domestic sales of fuel for non military vehicles restricted to 20 litres in occupied Crimea @briantrumpet. On top pf that, you have to obtain a coupon before purchase (more corruption). There's long queues (miles long, literally) where people are sleeping in their cars overnight. Petrol is just over £3 per litre. More and more pictures of horse drawn vehicles keep popping up.

Part 2 of this omnibus edition of the family album snaps.

Quick update on the fuel problem in Crimea above:

uk101.jpeg

It's a giggle a minute. This twat tried to say that the fuel was being restricted so that it wouldn't fall into enemy hands. "The actions are fully co-ordinated with the government of Sebastopol... the president gave special instructions to the specialised departments connected with supplying fuel to the Republic of Crimea".

uk102.jpeg

Away from Crimea...

Medics are reporting massive shortfalls in medicine including drugs for cancer treatment, vaccines for children - encephalitis, hepatitis and chicken pox. Doctor's are afraid to even speak on the phone. Medicine has to be shipped through Kazakhstan. State programs are being cancelled with many who were entitled to free medication not receiving any.

The chickens are coming home to roost.

Russian war bloggers are openly talking about how much land and resources they will cede in the $trillions needed for reparations for the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure and how they need to come to terms with this reality.
Meanwhile, Putin assembled a makeshift bunch of paid protestors chanting stuff like bombing Washington:

uk104.jpeg

*Candace Owen ^ referenced. Interesting.

More nihilistic rhetoric from the Russians:

uk105.jpeg

Pro-Russian American bloggers started panicking with "Oh my god, the Russians are going to nuke us".

D'ya still think the Ruskies are gonna win?!

I can't remember saying they would, but would agree with the analyses that it's looking better for Ukraine now that 12 months ago, thanks to clever stuff by Ukraine in grinding the Ruskies down. Point taken, BTW, about Crimea and Kerch Bridge. It's looking grim there for Putin, without taking out the bridge.

I would refer you to Richard J Murphy on that 😊

Quantitative easing (QE) generally exerts upward pressure on inflation by increasing the money supply, lowering borrowing costs, and boosting overall economic demand. Central banks use QE during economic downturns to hit inflation targets, but excessive QE can lead to high inflation if demand outpaces supply.

Putin will need the latter.

What has Richard J Murphy got to say on the matter?
