They did but quite frankly they should have been down to seven players and a 3-0 drubbing within the 90 minutes.
Refereeing decisions kept them in the game.
Oh, and there was nothing wrong with the disallowed goal. Not the offside one.

To be fair to the ref, he was a lot firmer with ARG than the guy England had!
The other guy would not have carded Enzo for dissent (and without that, he probably would have just got a yellow for the late "somersault" challenge that earned him a red in the Real Timeline.)

Of course he could/should have handed out numerous other yellows, and in partuclaur the challenge by Mac Allister, which would have set the tone better.

But overall - and I can't say this was definitely because of the ref - I saw waaay less thuggery in this game* than the ENG match.

*the post-match stuff is a different thing ... :P :P

Deserved win for Spain last night..

As far as the football is concerned, this world cup has been great. England's run to the semi, Cape Verde, Panama and Curacao doing great things. The megastars of world football, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Messi*, Kane, Haaland etc. turning up and doing exactly what people had hoped. The fans, as ever, bringing the noise and the colour and the unfettered joy. As much as I didn't like the idea of it being in the US, it's been great.

Everything else about it has been sh1t. The hydration breaks, the political interference, ticket, hotel and travel prices, announcements in the stadium about cards and substitutions. The treatment of the Iranian team, the Somali ref banishment the difficulty of fans getting in to the US. As for that half time show last night, halfway through the zenith of four years of waiting for billions of people, it was utter bollox on so many levels. It was really evident that the US (or at least those doing the organising and admin) just don't "get" the World Cup.

*Very disappointed with Messi's antics in this world cup - for me, they have overshadowed the great footballing things about him and will forever taint his legacy and Ronaldo's levels of petulance and entitlement hit new heights

The whole thing of having all these US celebs on freebies in the VIP section also drove me mad. Fair enough if ticket prices are normal and actual fans make up the majority of the crowd. When they are all priced out of though, and you see and endless stream of hangers on with no interest in the game it really emphasises how little FIFA give a sh!t about fans.
