As the party Chair spends a lot of time on the media round I don't think Zahawi's position is tenable.

Perhaps not in the long term but Sunak's letter only refers to him being removed from government and doesn't seem to mention his party chair role. Zahawi was expected to coordinate the Conservative by-election campaign. I personally don't think he could now run the campaign but I'd need to see a new chair/Minister without Portfolio appointed before I believe he's really gone.

EDIT: It looks like Stephen Massey has the caretaker chair role.
