Shep, like the overwhelming majority of Conservative voters, appears not to understand the fundamental principles and objectives of the party he gives his vote to, so he supports them while expecting them to deliver policies which are diametrically opposed to their fundamental political philosophy.

This isn't his fault - it's unlikely his education included any political philosophy (mine certainly didn't) and like most people, I'd guess his political awareness has been largely derived from the media and newspapers he has consumed during the course of his life - overwhelmingly right-wing, and with a vested interest in attacking socialist principles and the left.

People do tend to think if they read it in the papers, it must be the truth.

They have confirmed that they have apologised to Buckingham Palace but when asked the No 10
Spokesperson refused to say what they are specifically apologising for.

Think the reasons are far more simplier, there simply not dropping him because it would hand any possible election win to Labour

Do you think Johnson is still an an electoral asset? I think the latest party revelations have made him toxic.

He is gone, the question is when. I think significant parts of the Tory party have been thinking he should go even before "PartyGate" but I suspect were waiting for Omicron to subside and maybe for the local elections in May to be over.

What is problematic for the Conservatives is getting a new leader who will be accepted by all factions in the party.

Totally agree, there will be a lot of Tory voters affected by the lockdown that will see this as him taking the piss and would find it hard to vote for him again, myself included, he'll be gone soon enough.

But are any of the ones who are electable (both by party members and the voting public) both uncorruptable and competent? That's the bigger question. I'm sure we can all think of some who might be electable but wouldn't last long before another farce, and the less generous among us can probably think of someone who might be electable by the party but get blown away in a general election, if he survived that long before dividing the party.
