Wonder what the infection rate is amongst each team's supporters across the UK compared to other close communities.

We need a graph comparing Football Ground Attendance vs Covid Infection Rate for surrounding area. Will not allow for supporters who travel from outside the area of course.

I am not a sports fan, so, this is hearsay on my part, but, I understand there were 80,000 in attendance at Twickenham last weekend, for a Rugby game, of course, Rugby supporters may be more compliant mask wearers than football supporters.

Or they won't lose as much income as one of those suits if they catch covid, perhaps. Could be loads of reasons. I think that assumption may be a bit dodgy.
Well it was an off-the-cuff comment, not a scientific observation, so I don't mind it being "a bit dodgy".

Although I didn't see any medical exemption badges or lanyards, so I don't think it unreasonable to criticise those who flout conditions of carriage and ignore sensible public health advice (by not wearing masks). Infections might be falling, but judging by your previous postings you're well aware of the dangers from Covid.

Imagine ever time Man Utd play at home the infection rate in London must go through the roof!

Well ... I think there are differences and overlaps between Rugger, Cricket and Football.

I found it interesting at my first Test-Match back in August (nearly full capacity crowd at Lords) They had a nice simple mask mandate there: you can take them off in your seat, watching the game. But please wear them moving round the ground.
Almost everyone took theirs off as soon as they got through the front gate.
At lunch, there was quite a crush in one of the walkway; barely 5% wore their masks.

I didn't hear any evidence of associated spikes from that event, but I found it interesting (and a little sad).

Can anyone find a list of current outbreak sources or hotspots like early in the pandemic? I didn't. All is bland big numbers like residence type (care home, private house, hostel, residential education or whatever).

Is track and trace now so comprehensively farked that we no longer know where covid is spreading most?

Without looking I would guess 500,000 people attend football matches each week in the main 4 tiers, along with Rugby , Horse racing and all other manner of sport since restrictions were lifted there must be a Million people or more travelling around and mixing with others and it doesn't appear to have created many spikes at all.

What list of spikes are you using?

I don't use anything but I guess if the media thought attending such events caused 'spikes ' they would have been all over it, as would people on here.
You telling me if you could find proof that the Government allowing people to attend sporting events had increased Covid cases you wouldn't be linking to them at every opportunity?

You'd be like a Tramp on Chips.

Restrictions lifted in July, big surge in cases that's had a few spikes but is on the whole still climbing. To what extent there are local spikes associated with football matches or other gatherings I don't know but the Euros were certainly implicated. Death rate's climbing too, up to about 150 - 200 per day.

It's grim, and it's getting worse again.

So found nothing on weekly matches or any other sports events?

Didn't think you would.

TBF I didn't look that hard. My hunch, and it is just a hunch, is that any increase in infection rate due to regular sports events would be lost in the noise. Infection rates are up generally due to the lifting of restrictions and sports are just a part of that.

I went to Meadowhall and virtually nobody was masked. About 25% masked at university. Public transport is rammed full. People are going to theatres and taking their masks off in their seats. Teachers are unmasked in schools. I have no idea how you'd pull out the effects of a football match from all that. The only place I go where everyone is reliably masked and at least attempting to keep a distance is work, and they've also given us advice which goes above and beyond what is required by law when outside work, although that is of course unenforcable.

Meanwhile infection rates keep rising.

Now things are pretty much back to normal, I would think it's near impossible to keep track of how the infection is spreading or where people are catching it.

I was one of a handful of people wearing a mask in Asda yesterday.
