She won't. Women in prisons are treated worse than men for offences against children. She won't have anything like the strength to cope with the rigours of normal prison and of course, she won't have that, she'll have a very, very bad time and every minute will be a battle to survive. I worship the ground that's coming to her.

The old 'she wings' - prisons within prisons - were abolished a few years ago on the sensible basis that while some women do just as nasty things as men, they do not present the same escape risk or threat to prison order.

On the other hand, the male defendant can look forward to spending most of his sentence in one of a handful - seven, if I recall - of high security category one jails.

Speaking to prison officers and a few inmates, those places really are a hell on earth.

Where do the truly hard female cases, Rose West and the like, fetch up?

Where do the truly hard female cases, Rose West and the like, fetch up?

In the same medium security estate.

Funny you should mention Rose West, because one of my copper contacts bumped into her in Low Newton prison, one of three prisons in Durham City.

She reminded him of his grandma, an innocuous looking elderly woman, although I don't think the copper's grandma reads Shakespeare, which is what Rose was doing.

Low Newton is also a YOI - Young Offenders Institution - but the women's bit is described simply as a prison for women aged over 18.

In other words, a serial shoplifting lass who gets a short stretch from magistrates could end up in the cell next to Rose.

Men doing a long stretch are routinely shunted around, particularly if there's been some bother in the jail, and it also helps to prevent unhealthy relationships being formed with staff.

I'm not sure what the policy is for long term women.

Perhaps they didn't want to be called a prick and have their evening ruined by one of your monster sulks? Perhaps all 30 were wishing you'd give it a rest and jerk off in private, like the rest of us, instead of buffing your hate boner in public?
Stop being one then?

“Is anybody seriously suggesting that these sentences are unduly lenient?”
Yeah another 10 years added on for each.
Thanks.

You can't do that. The Government brought in sentencing guidelines and a Sentencing Council. The Judge is following Government rules. He could have added one more year to Tustin and 3 more (I think) to Hughes, but only if he could negate the mitigations.

You having a laugh?
Ffs mate, I need to get off this forum.
I'm glad I don't speak people like you face to face.

Nope. Tustin was raising her own children, seemingly very well. It was Hughes child she had an issue with. A classic example of a mix of good and evil or Jekyll and Hyde.

Their lordships at the Court of Appeal can do pretty much what they want.

Their only difficulty is not appearing to be overly critical of the sentencing judge because these fellas like to stick together.

If the sentences are increased you will get a long winded explanation saying the original judge did nothing wrong, but we're going to slap on a few years anyway.

Without checking the timeline, I believe the little lad was abused over a long period.

One avenue for the Court of Appeal would be to make one or more of the child cruelty offences consecutive to the killing offences, rather than concurrent.

Thus they can say the original judge got the sentences correct, but still satisfy the public's demand for longer stretches.

Which I guess poses yet again the question, how far is sentencing about justice, and how far about delivering to the public the vengeance significant sections of it yearn for?

Similar scenarios. Weak natural parent, in this case with an IQ of 70, in thrall to a controlling and violent partner, and grandparents concerns dismissed and ignored. As many will know, I'm the first on here to stand up for women's rights, but I am beginning to wonder if in these two cases the fact that the aggressor was female led Social Services to be less diligent than they should have been. In the first case, the step mother had already had children removed from her care so there was no excuse for not thoroughly investigating.
