Milei was being lauded by the Economist for cutting spending. Then people started to object to being driven into poverty, and Milei's sister was embroiled in a corruption scandal. Next thing you know, the economy has gone all Argentinian again

Who are these people objecting about being driven into poverty? Shouldn't they be celebrating someone, somewhere, getting a lot richer? Ungrateful sods.

They’ve never heard of trickle down economics or the parable of three blokes down the pub obviously. Should have signed up to Cake Stop or NCAP so they’d appreciate how economics work

The Tory Party conference is gonna be lit.

Genuinely, it's going to be fascinating what happens - I suspect it's going to be more like a wake: everybody just sits around and mumbles things while they check that the ex-party really is dead.

Ask Stevo if he'll take notes and report back. The back of a fag packet should prove ample in size to record all the points of interest.

I think at this point the Tory Party is morphing into an ungraspable concept that philosophers will ponder over for centuries. It'll be another paradox to add to this list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_paradoxes

And after several centuries of the greatest minds pondering the subject, they'll still have no idea what the original question was.

The only person who ever knew for certain (the last time she looked) was Kemi Badenoch.

I'm sure this has saved the Conservative Party conference, in one fell swoop.

I can't understand quite why the Conservative Party cna't see what a disaster they have become, how lacking their leadership is. I don't agree with their general approach to governance but they certainly do have some smart people in the party. I can only think it's in large part because there is nobody better wanting the job eg (from not that long ago)
Tory candidates must pledge support for leaving ECHR or stand down, says Jenrick
Robert Jenrick has demanded that prospective Conservative candidates should either promise to support leaving the European convention on human rights or stand down.

It means she believes incoherent rambling really can win votes.…

If only we knew what her mission actually was (other than displaying her cluelessness and arrogance).

My guess is that there won't be one person who actually thinks that it's worth challenging Badenoch post-conference to be leader, and that the party will effectively die with her. If Jenrick wants to continue to go further to the right, then Reform is where he will end up, and he seems to be the only one with any ambition (so would be daft to stay with a dying party).

Both sad and fascinating to witness. Sad, because even if you strongly disagreed with their world view, all democratic systems need non-populist parties on the right to test the parties on the left, and vice versa.
