Or nobody with half a brain got elected as a Tory MP (most had already quit / been driven out)

A lot of people with half a brain got elected as Labour MP's though.

I would guess that they are all biding their time as it's such a shitshow on the far right, and they are happy for her to take all the blame. Well, apart from Jenrick, who's trying to rehabilitate Enoch Powell (saying he was essentially correct but didn't quite get the messaging right), not least by making him seem relatively tame in his xenophobic ambition.
My sentiments exactly. I think she got the leadership, because, nobody with even half a brain wanted it.
Or maybe she was/is the best the party has for the job. Maybe they've sunk so low, lost any capability, waved goodbye to all morality, etc. that she is the best of a bad choice.

To be a successful Tory leader one would need:

the support of the few remaining party members, average age 103, with fascist tendencies, and mild dementia, possibly

And

The support of a good slice of the electorate, who are much younger and remember Johnson and Truss.

Not possible imho

In years to come people will probably be saying something similar about Labour's chances of success and needing the support of those who remember Starmer, Reeves and Rayner.

Politicians of all parties rely on the Electorate NOT remembering, that is how they get elected more than one time.

Thankfully we didn't forget everything at the last election.
