The fact that no-one's actively trying to replace her just reinforces my suspicion that no-one actually cares about the Tory Party as a political entity any more, despite Badenoch being hilariously bad. If Jenrick is manoeuvring behind the scenes, he'll only be using the party as a vehicle for his Reformy agenda, as Farage is unlikely to welcome a potentially ambitious rival into Reform.

They will just let her have catastrophic local elections and use that as a lever.

Good point. I still don't see any other future for them other than a total rebuild as a moderate centre right to try and steal the Lib Dems support and slowly gain credibility. I think they will go down the Reform-lite route though, which is pointless as Reform voters want the actual Reform party, not a tribute act.

The country really does need a centre right party: Starmer's Labour seems to be pitching itself mainly as Reform-lite with a few token lefty noises, LibDems, I suppose centre left, Greens as where Corbyn was. It's all a mess.

It‘s unusual for the tories to not dump a leader that is not serving the purpose in favour of the next flavour of the month. So they don’t have anyone lined up who is acceptable and actually wants the job. Jenrick is clearly not ticking the boxes.

Combination of things, but I think FA is right that they'll wait for the local elections, and if anyone can be bothered, they'll boot her out then. But I think they are doomed if they don't realign themselves away from Reform, and I can't see that happening unless someone with a bit of profile, charisma and integrity can be arsed to try to save a sinking ship. It's a pity that the people with charisma tend to be dishonest ärseholes who'd sell their granny if it would help them meet their ambition.

Which also means Jenrick isn't smart enough to realise the direction the Conservatives are moving and their trajectory means that it won't give him any opportunity to achieve any of his ideology. Basically he's to dumb to notice he's wasting his time.

BadEnoch has said on BBC radio that the new Tory policy on removing illegal migrants is to send them not here. When asked to clarify, she said not here. Finally, when pressed, she said "where they came from". So France then, Kemi. Excellent.

This wouldn't be a good answer even at school debate level. I'd hazard a guess she came up with a meme to put on X, and that was the extent of the policy planning, thinking, like Johnson, that she's got the intellect to wing it if someone has the audacity to ask her a question.

What I don't understand is where she ever got the idea she was the smartest person in the room? What room was it, and who else was there?

You don't have to be an intellectual heavyweight to be an MP or PM, but I'd much rather put my trust in someone who underestimates their intellect than overestimates it.

I've met a few similar people over the years, an overwhelming self confidence bordering on delusional, often enabled by parents who have constantly reinforced the delusion. I hate to be rude, but it's not just that Badenoch isn't as intelligent as she thinks, she is not intelligent at all if we look at her behaviour. Lack of basic reasoning, inability to present coherent arguments, binary thinking, can't adapt or think spontaneously, poor decision making, blames others for her faults etc.

but we have a song in our heart"

Any ideas what that song could be?

Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin?

The Party Conference banners are all something like 'protecting our borders' so they aren't realigning away from Reform anytime soon even though it is the obvious move.
