Why does that matter? It is not the killer argument you think it is.

If it makes people feel more self-righteous and happy that they use a ‘green’ energy supplier then why spoil their delusion. We need more happiness in the world.

EV cars do just about make sense. If you have the infrastructure and ability to charge them conveniently near home/work. I don't. I also travel to NW Scotland and rural Wales for camping without a charger for miles.
I think they just about break even on carbon footprint about the same time the batteries lose their efficacy and so you chop it in for another.
The thing nobody talks about is the recycling of the battery components. It's very difficult and energy intensive. At the moment. It's far from green at EoL. ICE cars can be smelted down for reuse of metals. Less so with EVs.

We have one but they are definitely not suitable for everyone. Once the battery life is longer and the range extends they'll be more feasible for everyone. I wouldn't buy new because there's too big a price difference, but used some are a comparable price to the petrol equivalent. They greenest thing is probably to keep your old car and run it into the ground.

I'll go with that.

Until the range and battery life extends it wouldn't work for me, but in any event I'm happy to keep my rather fun 'gas guzzler' and do low mileage in it. They also need to make EVs a more attractive proposition for those of us who don't just see cars as way of getting from A to B - i.e make us want to buy one. At present they're mostly just 'white goods' to me.

Oh, we did learn that Johnson was incapable of making a decision at the right time and likes a good party.

I suppose we learned to get rid. Nothing learned as a collective going forward health wise though. Back to sneezing in other's faces. 🤮

I am likely to purchase an ev soon but agree they are not the best fit for all. There is definitely something to be said for keeping all manner of consumables running for longer, cars included. The constant upgrading and the manufacturing required plus the waste must be a significant contributor to mass energy consumption. Also, the sheer number of househoulds I see with 3 or more cars is crazy. Houses in my area regularly have 5-6 cars. I understand these are often extended family househoulds, but surely cars can he shared?
