But luckily EVs hardly generate any. The only pollutants EV generate is tyre dust. ICE cars also generate tyre dust, tailpipe emissions *and* brake dust.

Ahem, power stations produce pollutants.

And they take a lot of energy and resources to produce.

Sure, they are better than new ICE cars in many respects, but they are quite heavy still polluters, one way or another. Though the extent will reduce the more truly renewable energy resources come on stream.

Can I be the first to say "there is no road tax".

That said, the road tax move is unbelievably stupid. If you want to encourage people to move to greener vehicles then making them pay more than ICE drivers is just plain idiocy.

If you manage to find a cheap EV you pay £195 fair enough. But any EV over £40k which is most of them you pay £620 for your road tax. A comparable ICE will be cheaper and pay less tax despite polluting more.

I know, but most still use the term, myself included!

Completely agree. In addition, phasing out grants for new ev purchases and then reducing the chargepoint grant for virtually everyone just added to the lack of incentives. It would make sense if ev sales outweighed petrol cars and there was no longer a need for incentives, but as this is clearly not the case it is just discouraging potential ev owners.

I'm surprised that anyone is surprised. This is just playbook 101 for anyone that remembers the incentive to go diesel.
Make it cheap, get them invested, increase prices.

Whereas ICE cars just hatch from eggs fully formed.

Are you telling me that this isn't?

Mind you, it isn't an ICE car.

What if the cars are charged exclusively by renewable energy? Should be possible.

Possible in the future. How far into the future? Increased charging is happening this year. Pollution is happening right now.

You can get totally renewable energy tariffs for electricity

The energy supplier will have a REGO certificate to confirm the electricity they are purchasing is from renewable sources.

So as long as the energy supplier is buying enough 'green' electric to cover their customers. You can say you're using renewable energy

As is an increase in solar and wind according to Millibean.

Also, I can choose what car I buy and which electricity supplier I use. I can't build a power source.

Exactly. You using whatever power source is given. Green energy for green cars is a way off.

Fascinating. How do they prevent the green electricity from mixing with the non-green electricity as it travels along the wires?
