The US will survive and return to a more normal state of affairs eventually - is my prediction. While the US electorate may be very inward looking and blinkered in many ways, one thing they will not forgive is a President/administration that makes them worse off. Which by the look of it, his current policies will do.

Let's hope so, but I suspect it'll be damage that lasts a generation, just like... oh.

I'm guessing that you're referring referring to Rachel From Accounts and Keir Starmer, Farmer Harmer.

I'm guessing you're forgetting Johnson, Truss, and the reasons for Labour's 200-seat majority. But hey ho, we all forget things from time to time.

Well Rachel and Keir are going for growth, they just didn't mention that the number might end up negative pretty soon. In the meantime her latest tax raising initiative is costing my group somewhere around £5m a year in the UK, with the pretty predictable impact on how many people we employ. That's 'leftienomics' for you.

I'm not fan of theirs either, as you might have gathered by now. They seem to be too focused on not upsetting the GB loons, and forgetting that a lot of people merely lent them a vote to GTTO and to undo the damage caused by Brexit.

Come on Stevo we are a moderate economy in a large world that seems to have gone batschit crazy. Please tell me you aren't the sort of person to blame Gordon Brown for the GFC?

Dave (i'm going for a referendum 'cos that'll appease UKIP as they are threatening to take votes away from the slim majority so the Tories stay in power)
Theresa May (I'm going to get a great deal in Europe)
Boris Johnson (£350m a week for the NHS, I'm going to spout bollox, tell everybody what to do and have parties at number 10 during lockdown)
Truss (epic fail)
Sunak (Trusssst me - just like the snake in the jungle book) and then...
Who?!

If I was a Tory, I wouldn't be having a dig at current or previous Labour PM's. 14 years in power and it was a train crash. I would be more concerned about how they form a credible opposition.

Breaking news from The Times:

I can't read that because of the paywall but many are in this position and it counts as part of the estate and always has. You don't pay capital gains tax on it. Perhaps she means she has to pay the council tax on it - which in some areas is (edit: very) punitive on second homes - but these houses still need bin collections, fire and police services, other council provided services, whether someone is living there full time or not.

Edit: the sub heading is '£4,900 council tax bill'. Bit of sympathy then but applies to all.

Edit: If this is the same woman ...

https://www.rhyljournal.co.uk/news/...hyl-second-home-feeling-punished-council-tax/

Lost both her parents within weeks of each other, which must have been awful. Decided to keep the old family home as a holiday home. Council now plan to levy a 150% (?) surcharge on second homes, hence the £5k bill. Well it's a bit of a shame but it's detrimental to communities to have empty houses that are only used at weekends or in the summer. Places like Whitby are nearly all second homes now and apart from pricing people out of the market (not a problem in Rhyll probably) it leaves towns empty in the winter or when the day trippers have gone.

Councils have to prioritise the people who live there 24/7.
