<devilsteachers' advocate:> I actually think that few school-leavers need this knowledge. You can a get job without knowing about tax/pensions (you choose based on total salary, and you budget based on how much cash you get at the end of the week/month).
Hardly anyone starts their career self-employed.
Few people buy a house before several years of getting settled / saving / career advancement.
And which pupils would take any interest? When you can learn about volcanoes! How to chat-up french girls! Hammering Things skilz! Gear ratios!!!
I dunno... even if it were a cursory "These things will come along in the future, and you'll need to learn about them sooner or later", it might be better than nothing. In the Briantrumpet School of Stuff You Should Know, I'd probably include a module on how all governments are hopelessly compromised, so vote for the least worst (not for the biggest promises), that life can be ABS (a bit shît) at times, and be nice to people while you have the chance, as you'll be dead soon enough, and you can't make up for being a peanut once you're deaded.
And most importantly, laugh with other people and at yourself, not at other people.
