<devils teachers' advocate:> I actually think that few school-leavers need this knowledge. You can a get job without knowing about tax/pensions (you choose based on total salary, and you budget based on how much cash you get at the end of the week/month).
Hardly anyone starts their career self-employed.
Few people buy a house before several years of getting settled / saving / career advancement.

And which pupils would take any interest? When you can learn about volcanoes! How to chat-up french girls! Hammering Things skilz! Gear ratios!!!

I dunno... even if it were a cursory "These things will come along in the future, and you'll need to learn about them sooner or later", it might be better than nothing. In the Briantrumpet School of Stuff You Should Know, I'd probably include a module on how all governments are hopelessly compromised, so vote for the least worst (not for the biggest promises), that life can be ABS (a bit shît) at times, and be nice to people while you have the chance, as you'll be dead soon enough, and you can't make up for being a peanut once you're deaded.

And most importantly, laugh with other people and at yourself, not at other people.

Would you include staying in education as long as possible because real life is harder because you spend more to do less in far less available time?

I'm pretty dismayed at the latest strike ballot by resident doctors. Nearly 27% hike in past two years isn't enough, because they want to party like they did in 2007.

Well don't we all.

Honestly, the government just needs to hold firm to the pay review body recommendations now. There won't be much public support this time around.

As I've said before, arguing that you need more because you disagree with the rises that were accepted by your predecessors before you even started your training is bizarre. Maybe I should make a case that I should get more because Thomas Telford didn't value himself highly enough.

Tony Blair thinktank worked with project developing ‘Trump Riviera’ Gaza plan
Tony Blair’s thinktank worked with a project developing a postwar Gaza plan that included the creation of a “Trump Riviera” and a manufacturing zone named after Elon Musk.

The project, led by Israeli business people and using financial models developed by the US consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG), was developed against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s vision of taking over the Palestinian territory and transforming it into a resort.

While the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) said it was not involved in the authorship of the plan, two staff took part in calls as the project evolved.
...
The article sort of says it all about Blair, money, etc.

It all goes back to the utter failure of the education system to prepare people for the reality of adulthood. Very few of the population are financially literate and that should have been addressed years ago. School leavers need to have an understanding of how their pay works, what their payslips really mean, and a basic understanding of saving , investing and pensions.

When I (and the rest of my classmates) had finished our “O” levels (a very long time ago), we were not allowed to just leave school, we had to stay until the end of the final term. To keep us out of mischief, we were given lessons on things like:
How to open a bank account
How to write a cheque (I did say it was a long time ago)
How to get a mortgage
How to get a bank loan
Etc

That was probably the most valuable 2 or 3 weeks of my entire education. 😂

We had the same. We were also taught about compound interest. Very important lessons that all need. Whether they take it in or not is another question.
