That is about the crux of it.

Maybe Mr Burgess & Mr Hignell wouldn't be too upset about my grasp of history after all.

Seriously? This law and its application is making the Dangerous Dogs Act look like the epitome of sensible legislation.

She's now released a statement that she didn't mean to scare everyone into thinking that Dolly was about to kick the bucket.

Phew (for now). Even if her music isn't my cup of tea, she's a legend, not least for the charitable stuff she does.

I don’t think Lenny Henry is going to be making many friends with his latest suggestion for reparation payments.
Yes slavery was bad but it’s got nothing to do with any of us. And frankly this stuff is just perfect fodder for the likes of Reform and Tommy Robinson.

Maybe we should ask the Italian government for reparations related to the invasion of Britain by the Romans, could be a nice little earner. And France could get out of its current financial pickle if it taps up Germany for invading them in WW2.

The arguments about generational trauma are nuanced and there is no doubt that the UK benefited from Empire.
But hasn’t it always been the case that the most powerful nation at what ever time, takes economic advantage of the weaker nations. The UK has a good run at it, but our time has passed and other countries have taken over the dominance.
Slavery has been abolished but there are still plenty of horrible things happening.
But these arguments are all a bit silly. Where do you draw the line on historical injustices?
My ancestry is mainly Germanic and Scandinavian. I suspect there has been a fair bit of rape and pillaging in my family line. Bloody vikings owe me 5,000 Danegeld.

I suggest Lenny Henry starts a gofundme page, with a sizeable donation so that all those who feel guilty about the sins of their ancestors and the benefits they have gained as a result can contribute and assuage their guilt.

If you are the offspring of a Jamaican father and a British mother, are you the victim or the villain? Do you owe yourself money?

I don’t think Lenny Henry has really thought this through, or expects it to happen.
It’s just a pointless talking point.

Laura Trevelyan and a few other descendants of slaver families are doing just that

I think something that needs to be considered is that slave owners were compensated for the loss of their "property" upon the abolition of slavery, whereas the freed slaves were left pretty much to their own devices.
